Since 1946, every year during May, Cannes is brought to life by the famous event, “Cannes Film Festival “. The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world’s biggest media events, where film professionals come for a rendezvous. Although the official screenings are invitation-only, there are several activities accessible for the public to soak up such wonderful moment. Pack your picnic essentials and grab a seat at a giant outdoor theatre to enjoy some classic films at Mace Beach. This Cinema de la Plage is open to the public, every evening from 9 p.m. onwards during the festival period. Play paparazzi for a day, and approach by the Palais des Festivals to see the parade of stars passing their moments on the famous red carpet. Who knows, you may happened to ran into one of your favourite celebrity !

Think of a fresh creamy burrata salad as a starter, followed by an authentic penne al pomodoro, and top it all off with a sweet panna cotta… That’s a complete package for an ideal Italian meal. Only a minute walk from the hotel, but make sure to book in advance because its always full!

Fancy French gastronomy? Table 22 is worth a visit. Located in the heart of Le Suquet, the restaurant serves fine-dining dishes from an award winning chef in Cannes, Noël Mantel. Be astounded with Provençal-inspired and seasonal menu selections. The lobster ravioli with tender leeks in shellfish sauce is the star here, or go for a surprise option, like their course menus with wine pairings.

Uva

“Uva” in Latin languages means grape. So right from the name, you can tell that this place comes with a great list of wines. Whenever you are closed by to Rue d’Antibes, drop by for a touch of simplicity and conviviality at UVA. Apart from the wine and dine, don’t miss on the opportunity to try their desserts and pastries, one of their chefs made it his specialty.

Come and savor excellent Italian cuisine nestled in the heart of Cannes! Gusti Italiani invites you to travel to different regions of Italy through the best quality of cold cuts, fresh pasta, wines, and artisanal cheeses. Not just an ordinary Italian grocery, the shop is also open as a restaurant for lunch during the weekdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

FESTIVALS TO SEE IN FEBRUARY

French Riviera is a fantastic destination to visit all year round. Although it’s cold and chilly in February, there are several spectacles to see and festivals not to be missed !

Nice Carnival (10-26 February 2023)

Festive and colorful from day to night carnival parades for two weeks straight on the Cote d’Azur.

Lemon Festival in Menton (11-26 February 2023)

A celebration of locally produced citrus fruits. Large sculptures made of lemons and oranges are paraded through the streets along with entertainers and colorful bands.

The Mimosa Festival (8-12 February 2023)

Enjoy and celebrate the winter sun in Mandelieu-La Napoule with marching bands and street orchestra covered in locally grown Mimosa flowers.

CHAPEL BELLINI

If you are looking for the right mix of Tuscany and Provence, the Bellini Chapel is for you.

The chapel, of Baroque inspiration, was built in 1894 by Count Vitali, whose name is engraved on the bell. It is part of the Villa Fiorentina, a famous ‘Italian-style’ villa, where inside you can admire the clock tower and the gallery with a wooden staircase, strictly in the Baroque style.

In 1953, it became the property of the painter and architect Emanuele Bellini (1904-1989), who was able to create a particularly extraordinary atmosphere inside thanks to his colourful style inspired by Impressionism and Fauvism. It is a true artist’s studio, full of colour, fun and imagination. The chapel is now a museum dedicated to the artist, and his daughter will be happy to show it to you together with the painter’s life, which are one and the same, every afternoon from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., or by appointment. Bellini painted and marked forever a certain reassuring and joyful image of the city of cinema.

EXCURSION TO THE HEART OF THE
OF LAVENDER

The beginning of summer is the ideal time to discover Provence and all its secrets. Here is the itinerary we recommend.

Take advantage of the morning freshness to go to the plateau of Valensole and discover the fields of lavender in bloom. Let yourself be caught up in the sweet scents of these purple rivers as far as the eye can see, offering a splendid panorama.

A short distance away is the magnificent village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the ideal place for lunch. With its narrow cobbled streets, rocky peaks and magnificent views, the village is one of the most beautiful in France and will leave you with unforgettable memories.

Before returning, head down to Lac de Sainte-Croix, the perfect idyllic place to relax. Soak up the sun as you swim in the turquoise waters while admiring the landscape of the Gorges du Verdon.

THE LERINS ISLANDS

Facing the Old Port are the Lerins Islands, a must-see for visiting Cannes and its surroundings. Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat are two jewels not to be missed!

Sainte-Marguerite Island

Sainte-Marguerite Island is the largest of the Lerins Islands. It offers an idyllic setting, between creeks and pine forests. The island has more than 22 km of trails, all offering unique landscapes. It also has a rich historical heritage, including archaeological remains and its Royal fort. 

Saint-Honorat Island

Separated from Sainte-Marguerite Island by only 600 meters of sea, Saint-Honorat Island also has a rich past. Its monks’ abbey and the remains of the fortified monastery make the island a destination not to be missed. The island is 1500 meters long and is ideal to discover on foot. Indeed, it is wooded and offers magnificent views.

Museum of the Iron Mask and the Royal Fort

 On the first island of Lérins, the island of Sainte-Marguerite, the museum of the Iron Mask and the Royal Fort is located on the oldest part of the Vauban-type Royal Fort.

You can visit the old state prisons and the famous cell of the Iron Mask where the mysterious prisoner was incarcerated for eleven years.

On the upper floor you can see the underwater archaeological material from the Roman wrecks and the fragments of wall paintings found during the land excavations on the island of Sainte-Marguerite.

This museum is therefore a must-see place that will immerse you between mystery and history! 

The Museum of Explorations du Monde

The museum of Explorations du Monde, formerly museum of the Castre, located on the heights of the historical district of Cannes, offers you a travel in the heart of the Primitive Art, the Orientalism and the Antiquities.

The museum presents collections of Mediterranean archaeology and Primitive Arts. In particular, an exceptional collection of world musical instruments to admire in the Sainte-Anne Chapel.
